Yes Yes A Thousand Times Yes releases sophomore LP supertinyinfinitedans

Yes Yes A Thousand Times Yes, based out of Pittsburgh PA, is back with their second album; their first LP release being back in 2016 – “Not Once, Not Never”. supertinyinfinitedans and the production process originate back to 2014, and it gives an interesting glimpse into their lives & mindsets from almost ten years ago. Consisting of Dan Hagendorf, Cam LeViere, and Ryan Ruff, the trio is making a powerful comeback into the scene with their newest LP. Hagendorf does vocals and guitar, but they are also the writer for the band’s music, LeViere is on the bass, and Ruff is all drums and aux percussion, he also engineered the album!

Hagendorf describes their goals for this LP as wanting to “vindicate its listeners in saying you are justified in feeling angry and desperate, but also challenge them in saying hope is not mutually exclusive.” Especially in today’s day and age, this is something that I really resonate very strongly with, and I know every other listener will agree with me – this is a fantastic album.

It opens with the track Two Birds, One’s Stoned – including a clever word play in the name – and it’s a great way to open the LP despite being less than two minutes long. The opening guitar riffs are fantastic, and they scratch that itch in your brain perfectly – Hagendorf executes these notes in a way that makes this song so catchy.

Another standout track to me was the almost six minute long Numb Sum and its math rock influences. Amongst some repeating phrases of “At least somebody loves me”, “I guess the big guy likes me”, and “I guess that we’re going steady”, I find it to be extremely catchy – and then it leads into a fantastic moment of instrumentals. Echoing “You are exactly who you’re supposed to be”, Numb Sum really does inspire the feeling of hope in you, especially if you’ve ever felt lost or without a sense of direction. I myself have found myself feeling like that, and Numb Sum reinforces the sense of comfort and being on your own timeline instead of comparing yourself to others.

I also really enjoyed Oh god, If There Is A God and found it to be extremely relatable. With how many bad things that have happened and are currently happening, it’s so easy to lose hope or to struggle heavily with it. Especially for those who don’t believe in religion or hold different religious beliefs, you might find a little humor in the line “Oh god, if there is a god / Computer god is that you?” with how much our world today relies on the internet and social media.

supertinyinfinitedans is not an album you want to miss! Between igniting feelings of nostalgia and losing the sense of childlike wonder, it absolutely reinforces the idea of being unhappy with the world, but having the hope to change it. Yes Yes A Thousand Times Yes really outdid themselves with this LP comeback!
