THE WEEKEND REPLAY
Welcome back to The Weekend Replay! Our new music selection this week is a good one. Get your headphones ready, and let’s get started.
“The Empress” from The Early November kicks off our rock music portion. The New Jersey-originated rock duo’s new song combines an emo-rock style production with a catchy, pop-esque melody to make for a killer track. It comes from their upcoming self-titled record that will be released on June 14. Alternative rock band Culture Wars released their new track “Heaven.” The song marks their first new song in three years, and their return is well worth the wait. With bouncy electric guitar plucks and smooth vocals, it’s the perfect song to match early summer’s high energy.
Maya Hawke released “Big Idea” from her third record Chaos Angel. The singer-songwriter-actress’s new single is an acoustic, strummed-out track that highlights Hawke’s vivid lyricism. She easily churns out a thoughtful theme of a grand scheme lifestyle with every single line throughout the song.
Indie pop group The Marías dropped their sophomore full-length record Submarine, featuring the highlight “Echo.” The groovy, laidback cut sees lead vocalist María Zardoya provide airy, ethereal vocals over a distorted drum beat. It exquisitely fits the world that the group creates to adhere to a very “underwater” feeling as the album title suggests. “Dreams” from Carol Ades sees the indie pop artist take on a new sound. The track amps up at the choruses, where heavy guitars and smooth vocals come together to drive the song forward. Ades does a stellar job of making the melody feel very youthful and dreamy, as the lyrics suggest as well.
