the weekend replay
Welcome back to The Weekend Replay! I hope you had a safe and fun holiday weekend. Let’s end it with some new tunes from it. Get your headphones ready, and I’ll get started.
Sunday Morning’s “Broken Glass” kicks off rock music. The track focuses on the importance of relationships over an alt rock beat, infused with heavy rock vocals. They find the perfect balance across the choruses, where the production and vocals drive the track forward. The Connecticut-based hardcore band’s new single leads their upcoming EP Forget Me Nots (out June 21). “Lightning and Thunder” from Marianas Trench is a synthy pop rock track that leans towards the former. The pop rock band seamlessly combines a poppy sound with gritty rock vocals courtesy of lead vocalist Josh Ramsay. If you’re a fan of synth pop, you’ll love this one!
Alternative rock group Carly Cosgrove dropped their new single “Fluff My Pillow.” The band brings together angsty, emo lyrics with light guitar and drum beat over the verses, while they amp things up over the chorus. The vocals are strong, the lyrics portray a greatly relatable theme and the end result is a track that is a must-listen. Sports and Gus Dapperton’s new collaboration “Thank You for Leaving” is one of the indie world’s finest cuts from last week. The dream pop group and indie pop artist mesh together perfectly over a thumping, guitar-based beat. The tune is cut out to be a massive pop track, with an earworm of a chorus and instant replay factor.
Clairo has finally made her return to music after three long years. She leads pop music this week with her new single “Sexy to Someone.” The song sees the artist delving into a new sound, seemingly mixing the folk and upbeat indie pop elements from her last two albums. Filled with clarinets, horns and earnest songwriting, her return was oh so worth the wait. Indie pop trio Wallows released their third full-length album Model, featuring the new single “You (Show Me Where My Days Went).” The summer-ready track utilizes some bright guitar plucking and smooth vocals to make for a great pop cut. As well as the rest of the album, the song is the perfect addition to any summer day playlist.
