THE WEEKEND REPLAY
Welcome back to another Weekend Replay, here at Doors at Seven! I have a great playlist of tunes lined up for you this week, so get your headphones ready, and let’s get started.
Cassadee Pope kicks off rock music with “I Died.” The new single from the country-turned-rock artist comes from her upcoming album Hereditary, due out July 12. Featuring artist Daisha McBride, the track’s theme revolves around a former lover trying to pretend you’re basically dead. Pope’s vocals are strong, and the two vocalists compliment each other to make the track a killer. “Weight” from Connecticut-based hardcore rock group Sunday Morning is the standout heavy rock cut of the week. The vocals are strong, and the production matches the level.
Alternative pop artist Beccs released her new track “Rage In My Veins.” The powerful ballad showcases the singer’s strong vocals. Over a melancholy opening piano track, the song blossoms into an electro-pop piece with distorted production. Beccs has shown over a string of singles that she can easily carve her own niche within indie pop. Indie pop group COIN dropped their comeback single “Strawberry Jam.” The strummed-out guitar-based track marks a solid return from the group, with a very summery feel to it.
Leading pop music is Gracie Abrams with the second single off of her upcoming album The Secret of Us. “Close To You” has been teased for seven (yes, seven) years, and it’s finally here. Abrams’ fans have been anticipating this release since she posted a demo of it on her social media, and have begged for it since. The dance-pop track is massively catchy, and has the potential to be her biggest song yet. Charli XCX released her new album BRAT featuring the highlight “Sympathy is a knife.” The bouncy club cut sees the hyper-pop star tackle the feelings of jealousy within the pop realm. The artist reflects on moments like these across the album, seeing her reach new heights with her lyricism.
