Weekend replay 1.16.2023

Need some new tunes? The Weekend Replay is back with some fresh tracks to kick off your week.

If you spent any time on TikTok during 2020, you probably heard Lincoln’s “Saint Bernard”, and if you’re anything like us, you’ve been waiting for more—lucky for all of us, Lincoln just released Everything is Wrong, a 12-track LP that is a truly stunning release with impressive songs like “From God”. Yo La Tengo just shared “Aselestine”, a new single that is a very fair representation of the group’s extensive discography, and Mist Double, a very new face on the scene, put out their debut single “Hollow” this week.

Paramore has gifted the world “C’est Comme Çe”, the third single released ahead of their upcoming album This Is Why. WILDES released Other Words Fail Me, an album with tracks like “Woman in Love” which highlights the artist’s remarkably haunting vocals, and Kelsey Lue’s album and titular track flowers now demonstrate a unique vulnerability.

“Earthworms” is a super fun new track from gartenhead that’ll just make you want to groove a little bit, and The Subways just put out Uncertain Joys, a dozen songs that illustrate the group’s inter-genre diversity really well. hemlocke springs released “stranger danger!” which has a totally distinctive sound that is impossible not to appreciate.

The song that almost everyone is talking about this week is “Flowers”, a single from Miley Cyrus—between sampling Bruno Mars and reportedly singing about her ex-husband and alluding to their marriage in the accompanying music video, there’s a lot to be said about this song, but regardless, it is a super fun single about being independent and owning it.

Stress Fractures have just shared their new album Stress Fractures, which we have been patiently awaiting since we first heard the lead single off the album. Actor and musician Finn Wolfhard has shared a new track, “Pieces of Gold”, under the name Ziggy Katz—the name of the character he will be portraying in When You Finish Saving The World, an upcoming movie from A24 and director(!) Jesse Eisenberg. Local Weatherman put out a new self-titled album, which is their first full-length release and has a really exciting indie rock sound that Labrador’s Hold The Door For Strangers matches super well. Godcaster’s “Pluto Shoots His Gaze Into The Sun” keeps things on the mellower end of things with light vocalization and acoustic guitar.

Eric Raven’s The Shape of Pain absolutely kicks things up with a new, underground hardcore sound. Bloodbather’s new single “As You Die” keeps the metal sound going, and Periphery’s double release of “Wildfire” and “Zagreus” matches the energy. Plus, HateWalker’s new single “Venom” gifts all the metal lovers out there even more to listen to for a week of heavy releases.

Bringing things back down to round releases out for this week, Farrah Hanna released a new, relaxed EP, Dog, and Etta Marcus shared an EP of the same length, Heart-Shaped Bruise, which is super light and indie. And finally, poolblood put out mole, an album that is so raw and stunning, you have to listen to it.

This has been a beautiful week for releases. These tracks all have something so promising—from the new releases from the up-and-comers to the mint tracks from familiar faces, it is a great week for new music. Come back next week for more fresh finds at The Weekend Replay.
