The Weekend Replay
Rock music is led by Philadelphia-based, hardcore rock group Beef with “Busted.” The track touches on infidelity through a guitar track that progressively amps up throughout leading to hard rock vocals through the choruses. Mannequin Pussy dropped “I Got Heaven,” a punk indie rock track that carries just as much softness to it as it does passion. The almost-yelled verses lead into hushed-back indie pop choruses. Written and produced exquisitely, the song is a must-listen. typopro’s new single “ups & downs” is a punk-infused indie rock song with cascading guitar riffs and strong vocals. “Smile While It’s Ending” from East Coast act Floor Space is a punk rock track that has catchy guitar riffs and an even catchier melody throughout the choruses.
Alternative music this week starts with indie group Hovvdy’s cover of Samia’s “To Me It Was.” Hovvdy takes the formerly stripped back indie pop song and makes it an electronic-infused and bouncing track. Samia will be releasing other reimagined covers of songs from her acclaimed album Honey over the next few weeks. “Plastic” from indie trio Cheekface is a shining indie pop track perfect for the end of summer. With a spoken outro between two of the band mates regarding recycling, it makes for a memorable song. Shoegaze group Slowdive released their first album in six years on Friday, featuring the standout “alife.” The reverbed guitars and light percussion makes a stunning atmosphere for the track. Indie singer-songwriter Briston Maroney released “Sunshine,” the fifth single from his upcoming album Ultrapure. It is a summery indie pop track that shines (no pun intended) for its storytelling and lightly-strummed guitar production. Helena Deland’s “Bright Green Vibrant Grey” leads her newly-announced sophomore album Goodnight Summerland, due out Oct. 13. The song follows two other singles and brings a new facet to the batch. Featuring an airy vocal performance from Deland and vivid nature-inspired songwriting, the track is among the best indie cuts of this year so far.
Chelsea Cutler released the new track “Your Bones” after teasing it across social media the past few weeks. A guitar-based love song, it touches on having so much love for someone that it goes down to their bones (as the title suggests). British pop artist Griff released her new single “Vertigo.” Featuring witty songwriting and excellent pop production, the track makes the artist a solid new pop act to keep your eye on. Doja Cat released her new single “Demons,” the third song so far off of her upcoming record Scarlet. The rap track, supported by a horror movie-inspired music video starring Christina Ricci, shows an edgier side to the star’s releases for her new album so far, featuring some harder raps and vocals than the previous two singles.
That is all the new releases we have for you this week! Thank you for tuning in and we will catch you back here next week in the same spot for another great week of music.
