THE WEEKEND REPLAY
Welcome to The Weekend Replay, here at Doors at Seven! I have a playlist of some killer new tunes for your listening enjoyment this week, so get your headphones ready, and let’s get started.
Alternative rock group Four Year Strong dropped their new single “aftermath/afterthought.” The four-piece group’s new song comes off of their upcoming record analysis paralysis, out Aug. 9. The track escalates all the way to the end, with the finale being a strong showcase of heavy vocals and drums. CT-based rock group Sunday Morning’s new track “Agonize.” The song displays a great sense of vulnerability throughout. The vocals are emotive, and the production matches it perfectly, with swells of drums and electric guitar.
“New Frontier” from Sani Bronco leads alternative music this week. The artist blends folk and rock elements together to make for a groovy, summery track. The guitar riffs are bright, and Bronco’s vocals glide over them. Suki Waterhouse dropped a new single titled “Supersad” from her upcoming record. The alternative pop cut sees Waterhouse slide over a strummed-out grainy guitar track, with a theme of trying to beat the blues.
Charli xcx released a Lorde remix of her BRAT cut “Girl, so confusing.” The track, a sort-of “diss” against Lorde, becomes a moment of bonding between two artists pitted against each other throughout their careers. Lorde flawlessly matches Xcx’s candid, confessional songwriting style, and easily finds her place within the BRAT world. Gracie Abrams and Taylor Swift close out our playlist this week, with their new single “us.” The collaboration comes off of Abrams’ sophomore album The Secret of Us, which Abrams also just released. The two artists combine their styles flawlessly, with production courtesy of their common collaborator Aaron Dessner of The National. The bridge is an absolute highlight, with pounding drums and scathing lyrics.
