Yellowcard releases new music for the first time since 2016
Since reuniting at Riot Fest in 2022, the group keeps their comeback growing strong.
July 21st 2023 marks the band’s first release since the self-titled LP Yellowcard back in 2016, and this new EPChildhood Eyes is a fantastic way to jump back into the scene. The 5 track EP even contains features from Vic Fuentes of Pierce the Veil and Chris Carrabba of Dashboard Confessional.
Opening with Three Minutes More, featuring Fuentes, Yellowcard jumps right back into their familiar sound and is executed flawlessly. It’s incredibly catchy across all aspects of the board, and all the instruments & vocals fit together like a perfect puzzle and they complement each other so well.
The next track is also the name of the EP, Childhood Eyes, and is the main single of the release, also paired with a music video that now has almost 300k views. The drums here in particular were especially fun to listen to, they paired together so harmoniously with the repeating “I am the love you need” as the song was concluding. Hiding in the Light follows this as the next song on the EP, and Yellowcard keeps outdoing themselves. If you find yourself thinking “Surely the next song can’t be this good too” – you’d be dead wrong!
Coming back from such a long hiatus – both in releasing new music and playing shows – the expectations were incredibly high, but Yellowcard has truly surpassed them all. Honest from the Jump and the closer The Places We’ll Go, featuring Carrabba, close out the short but sweep EP that leaves you wanting a full length album ASAP!
As Yellowcard continues their tour celebrating twenty years of Ocean Avenue, we can only hope we’ll see much more of them to come! The tour concludes on August 18th in Portland, OR but they will also be playing this year’s When We Were Young festival in Las Vegas this October.
