Weekend REPLAY
Leading alternative music this week is Fauxes’ “Peaches.” The track is a shoegaze-esque indie song that boasts stunning production and solid songwriting. It is the group’s second single of the year and sets a solid standout in their catalog. No Good With Secrets dropped their new song “See You Clearly.” The thumping indie-rock track is an infectious summer-fueled one, featuring smooth guitar riffs and vocals to match. Self-Help’s “Sun Drop” featuring Duder Taco is a laid-back track with stunning production and some solidly-reverbed guitar towards the end. Yendawg released the new single “wisdom teeth,” a slow-paced indie song that lets the artist’s songwriting shine. The guitar track frames the song perfectly and the emphasized electric guitar riffs throughout the chorus add to it even more. Bird Week’s new record To Live Without features the highlight “Coney Island.” The track shows the New York-based band’s ability to show full versatility on an indie-rock track with ease. Mitski released her highly-anticipated new single “Bug Like an Angel” from her upcoming album, debunking previously-reported claims that she was retiring from music. Thankfully, the claims were very wrong and the track is a must-listen. It completely shies away from her previous release, the 2022 alt-pop-focused Laurel Hell, and finds the singer-songwriter at a return to softer production with heavy lyrics. Indie folk artist Searows released his new single “Older.” The song has very minimal production, drawing listeners’ attention towards the scenic and chill-invoking lyrics. Opening for artists like Gracie Abrams and Ethel Cain, Searows has shown that he is one of the next big indie-folk names to watch. Laufey dropped the title track to her upcoming album Bewitched. The song is a stellar and romantic one with beautiful orchestral performances and a stunning vocal performance from the artist.
Pop music is led by none other than Carly Rae Jepsen. Coming off of her acclaimed 2022 album The Loneliest Time, Jepsen released its “sister record” The Loveliest Time this past Friday. One of the best pop albums of the year so far features the amazing track “Psychedelic Switch,” a pouncing club-ready song that is one of Jepsen’s most experimental and catchy songs yet. AZRA released her new EP The Chronicles of Substance Pop: The Rebellion, featuring the single “6th Dimension.” The song is a guitar-driven pop track featuring some rock elements from AZRA’s vocal delivery and the electric guitar riffs. Holly Humberstone’s third single “Superbloodmoon” from her upcoming debut full-length album is another sure sign of her album’s success. The guitar-based pop track features d4vd and was inspired by Humberstone’s discovery of the titular super blood moon.
A standout country song from the past week is Tyler Childer’s “In Your Love.” Supported by a heartfelt (and heartbreaking) music video, the track is a beautiful love song highlighting Childer’s songwriting abilities.
That is all for this week’s Weekend Replay! Come back next week in the same spot for another recap of some of the best new tunes.
