THE WEEKEND REPLAY
Arcadia Grey leads rock music with “Made 4 Love.” The new track is an emo-rock song that starts off mellow and builds to a thumping rock beat and shrieked-out vocals. The three piece Chicago-based act skews through sounds and volumes with an impressive amount of ease. Arm’s Length’s new song “Arm’s Length” sees the band looking towards their own name for a stunning alt-rock track. The use of the band’s name as the title is very unique and the storytelling behind it, amidst reverbed electric guitar and pounding drums, pulls it off together very well. Joyce Manor and Tiger’s Jaw dropped covers of each other’s songs on Friday. Joyce Manor tackled “I Saw Water” while Tiger’s Jaw chose “Constant Headache.” The two rock groups created great interpretations of the other’s tracks, providing for a unique release from two great names in rock. Mannequin Pussy’s “I Don’t Know You” continues the rock group’s stellar string of singles off of their newly-announced record I Got Heaven, due out March 1. The twinkling track uses a cascading synth pattern and a gritty back track to make for one amazing song.
Alternative music kicks off with Holly Macve’s new single “Suburban House” with a feature from Lana Del Rey. The track is a haunting piano-based one where the two take turns singing verses and come together on the chorus, where their voices blend perfectly with each other. Indie act Searows released his new song “Funny,” written exquisitely and produced just as well. The production is minimal, featuring light guitar picking and haunting background vocals. Kingston, NY-based group Hush Woods came out with a new track called “Leave It Aside.” The indie track highlights the group’s smooth vocals and beautiful guitar playing. The highly-anticipated “A Night To Remember” from indie stars beabadoobee and Laufey dropped as well, after being teased on their social media accounts. The low-tempo alt-pop tune sees the duo use stunning string arrangements and sweet vocals to make an infectious track.
Kicking off pop music this week is Caroline Polachek’s weirdly wonderful “Dang.” The experimental pop artist’s first single since her acclaimed 2023 record Desire, I Want To Turn Into You is a branching out past the pop sound that she created on it. Fun fact: Polachek sampled a video-turned-meme of her screaming at geese for the bridge of the track (it’s true). Sabrina Carpenter released a stunning, more stripped down version of Taylor Swift’s “I Knew You Were Trouble.” The Spotify-exclusive release also came with a new rendition of Carpenter’s own “Feather.” Speaking of Taylor Swift, the pop star dropped her Eras Tour performance of her hit “Cruel Summer” on streaming platforms. The recording comes from her Los Angeles show, where the movie version of the tour was also recorded.
