THE WEEKEND REPLAY

Welcome back to The Weekend Replay! Another great week in music has passed and we have it all right here for you.

Starting off this week in rock music is Taylor Acorn and Cassadee Pope with their new collaboration “Coma.” The two rock powerhouses blend their voices perfectly, with each one singing their own verse and going back and forth between each other on the choruses. Both Acorn and Pope shine for their powerful vocals, and the song is one of the strongest rock tracks from the past few weeks. Bearings’ new album The Best Part About Being Human came out on Friday, featuring their new single “Human.” The song is an upbeat rock song that highlights some of the band’s moments of when they feel the most alive. The group said the record is a tribute to the joys of being alive and figuring out what kind of music they love to play live the most. “The Leech” by Ape Metro is one of two new singles from the heavy rock group. The first verse features mumbled vocals while the choruses go as heavy on the vocals as they can until the end. Disaster Artist’s “Edge Of The Blade” is a mid-tempo song with rock elements, utilizing heavily-reverbed guitar to create a perfectly gritty sound to the production. The False Alarms’ new single “Tension Rod” is an indie-rock track that stuns for its differences in production between the verses and choruses. The more-hushed verses provide space for the group’s songwriting and vocals to shine while the choruses amp them up.

Alternative music this week is led by Brooklyn-based indie-pop group Boston Flowers, who released their debut single “Man on Mars.” It is a lively track featuring solid guitar riffs and clever songwriting. The band’s new single is about “being in a busy city and working in a workplace with multiple moving parts.” Hozier’s new single “Damage Gets Done” features singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile and the result is stunning. A laid-back song featuring pop and indie elements, the duo’s vocals mesh together amazingly, making it a highlight off of Hozier’s new album Unreal Unearth. The XCERTS, a Scottish rock band, released their new album Learning How To Live And Let Go on Friday, featuring the highlight “Lovesick.” The song is a groovy indie rock song that touches on moments in a relationship and ends the chorus with a catchy, spelled-out chant of the title.

Singer-songwriter Sadie Jean leads pop music with her new track “16.” The up-and-coming artist (who had previously seen virality with her debut single “WYD Now?”) touches on themes of nostalgia and missing your adolescence as you grow older. It breaks loose in the chorus, with stunning production reminiscent of Lorde’s early work in pop music. Del Water Gap’s new single “Losing You” is a summer-soaked indie-pop song with an immensely-catchy melody in the chorus. Reneé Rapp’s “Pretty Girls” is a highlight from her new debut album Snow Angel. Starting off as a slower pop ballad, it turns into a synth-pop song in the choruses, where Rapp’s vocal delivery is the best part. Madison Beer dropped the latest single from her sophomore full-length album Silence Between Songs due out next month. “Spinnin” is the intro to the album and features grand instrumentals and an angelic vocal performance from Beer, whose show-stopping voice shines the most as it reaches higher and higher towards the end.

That is it for this week’s Weekend Replay! Come back next week for another recap of the newest and best tunes in the world of music.
