OLDSOUL - "Education On Earth" LP REVIEW

Massachusetts rock band, Oldsoul’s Education On Earth takes us on a ride of self-discovery along with becoming confident in oneself. The record was written in a time full of self-growth after the isolation they faced due to the pandemic. Their tour following their second LP, You Were Overwhelmed, unexpectedly came to an end and sent Oldsoul into a period of solitude. During this time, they reflected a lot on themselves as individuals and as musicians to collaboratively pull themselves forward into a new light.

Education On Earth shows this self-actualization throughout the record with topics such as self-worth and forging your own path. Jess Hall’s vocals portraying these artistically meticulous lyrics have a unique feel to them.

They flow extremely smoothly but also have that abrasive rock element that properly conveys the emotions felt about the subjects. This in combination with their sensational instrumentals truly makes this an amazing album. We get a highlighted taste of each musician throughout the collection that ensures the audience gets to see each member’s skill set.

You can tell how much time and attention to detail went into the production of this album. I found myself wanting to listen again and again to be able to fully experience and appreciate the level of intricacy put into recording. There are so many parts throughout the record that really just tickle your brain.

This album is perfect for anyone who might be going through a time of self-discovery themselves. People are consistently evolving around us and change can be challenging for some. It can be comforting to know that other people might be going through similar transitional periods in their lives. I believe there is something in Education On Earth for every listener whether you can connect to the lyrics or simply want to appreciate the talent of these musicians.
