THE WEEKEND REPLAY
Starting off this week in rock music is Harm Assist’s “Old City, New Problems.” The single is the band’s first since their debut album from last year and is a thumping heavy rock track that showcases strong vocals and guitar tracks. UnityTX released “LOST IN DAYZ…,” the group’s fourth single from their upcoming album ROC SH!T. The hardcore rock track continues the sonic palette of previous singles, steadying up the anticipation for the album’s release. Bearings’ “Slip” is a rock track with an emo tinge, touting an extremely catchy chorus. The melodies are sweet and the songwriting is clever. Pinkshift released “Home,” a song that stands out for its swells both up and down. It builds throughout and peaks in the middle, where the vocals are extremely strong.
Alternative music this week is led by on-the-rise indie pop singer-songwriter Keni Titus. “American Spirit” is a laid-back tune with killer songwriting and wordplay. Titus teased the song on TikTok leading up to its release and it did not disappoint in the slightest. Off Lights’ “Man or Machine” is a strong third single from the Berlin-based group. Combining both smooth pop vocals with alternative production, the song is stellar. Local Natives released a remix of a single from their 2023 album Time Will Wait For No One featuring Suki Waterhouse. “NYE” is a summery track with bouncing guitar and flawless combinations of the band’s and Waterhouse’s parts. Indie group flipturn released an acoustic version of last year’s single “Halfway,” now featuring Hotel Fiction. The new spin on the track provides a new dimension to it, as the group’s usual artistry includes strong vocals and more alt-rock instrumentals. “Palm Reader” from World’s First Cinema combines a post-chorus dance beat and slick songwriting to make a sleek alternative-pop song. Orla Gartland, who gained traction last year for a feature on the soundtrack to the hit series Heartstopper, released indie-pop song “Kiss Ur Face Forever.” The song is an uptempo romantic track where Gartland’s songwriting shines. Current Joys dropped their new experimental grunge-tinged LOVE + POP record featuring the highlight “bb put on deftones.” The songwriting is straight to the point and jarring in the best way, with slick delivery and a solid guitar riff back track.
Coming off of his acclaimed 2023 record Let’s Start Here., Lil Yachty dropped the new single “Slide.” Featuring fusions of rap and dance elements in the production, Yachty continues the experimentation he started leaning into on his last album. R&B artist Alina Baraz released her new single “Keep Me In Love.” The song is a romantic track where Baraz’s voice stuns. Her harmonies towards the end of it are dazzling and a highlight of the song. British artist Jorja Smith dropped “GO GO GO,” an R&B-tinged song with mostly pop elements. The production of the verses transforms during the chorus, where it becomes much more of an upbeat track.
That is all for this edition of The Weekend Replay! Come back next week for another roundup of some great new songs.
