GODSEYES "Progress/" Single Review ahead of debut LP next month

The LIHC scene continues to grow and Godseyes is a notable addition. Ahead of their debut full-length album “Progress//Regress” – out on September 8th via No Sleep Records – Godseyes releases the final single from the LP titled “Progress/”. Along with the other singles from the album, “Your Pardon” and “Memories in Blue”, I am really impressed with Godseyes. The New York based group is composed of Nick Picerno, Flavio Rosen-Ferraz, Brett Heller, Mike Jacques, and Adam Scrio – the band mentions that “the record is about the constant push and pull of both personal and worldwide hardships. The title, lyrical content, and sound fully encompasses the subject and feeling of procrastination, grief, and uncertainty.”

With bands like Koyo, Standstill, and Foreign Hands helping to start the LIHC revival, Godseyes is certainly another band to keep your eyes on – pun intended! The line of “I am the keeper of fortunes and scars / I am the reaper of this lost cause” immediately jumped out as one of my favorites on the track. It creates some dark imagery that matches the overall mood of the single, as well as how it’s vocalized by Picerno.

The slight repetition of “Leave me behind / Lose your past / Progression / Let me dive” was also executed in such a great way, and I especially love the subtle nod towards the track’s name. The band also recently added its second guitarist, and it has been a fantastic addition – their sound went to the next level and became that much more versatile and layered. This song and the upcoming LP create a story, and it’s one I can’t wait to listen to in its entirety. Picerno’s vocals are chock full of grit and emotion, on top of the guitars, bass and percussion, it makes for a song you just can’t skip.

Godseyes is definitely putting their own twist on LIHC and it’s paying off extraordinarily well with this single, as well as “Your Pardon” and “Memories in Blue”.

I really enjoy “Progress/” and I will be very eagerly awaiting the release of the full LP!
