THE WEEKEND REPLAY
Welcome back to another Weekend Replay here at Doors at 7! This week in music was a good one. Get your headphones or speaker ready to listen.
Starting off rock music this week is Cassadee Pope with a reimagined version of her 2013 breakthrough song “Wasting All These Tears.” After winning The Voice, the singer-songwriter rose to fame with the country track that’s now being reimagined in a pop rock style. Pope takes the song to amazing heights for its tenth anniversary, supported by even stronger vocals that made the track so great to begin with. Tyler Zanon’s emo-rock project Youth Fountain released the new single “Identical Days.” The track continues a streak of great singles off of the upcoming album Together In Lonesome, bringing together heavier rock sounds in the choruses with a pop-punk feel to the verses.
boygenius kicks off alternative music with the somberly stunning “Voyager.” The Phoebe Bridgers-led track is a peaceful one with light guitar strums and backing vocals provided by Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker. The lyrics are amazing, as always, and even features a reference to one of Bridgers’ fan-favorite tracks “Moon Song.” Indie rock group Foxing and Carly Cosgrove released a reimagining of Foxing’s track “Bloodhound.” The updated version is a more polished and alternative take of the original cut off of their 2014 album The Albatross. The thumping drums and guitar track make for a grand way to elevate an already great song. monarch.’s “In the Mood” sees the band trekking through genres with ease. Between a jazzy piano track and a smooth vocal delivery, the group’s new track shines for the way its different layers flow together so good and so effortlessly.
Troye Sivan leads pop music this week with his stellar new single “One Of Your Girls.” The track debuted alongside a music video starring Sivan and Ross Lynch that immediately drew buzz the second it was teased. The song comes off of the Australian pop star’s new record Something To Give Each Other and sees him dive into a sound different from the previously-released singles, tapping into a more breezy and laid back groove. Electronic pop duo telly’s new EP EPISODE 1 features three previously-released tracks and one new one called “Top 5.” The song shines in the latter half with its hazy production, dripping in synths and yearning vocals. Indie pop artist Raffaella dropped “Man of Your Dreams,” a collaboration with fellow indie act Samia. The insanely catchy pop track sees the two artists combine their sounds together seamlessly over a glitchy indie pop beat. Holly Humberstone released her amazing debut full-length album Paint My Bedroom Black on Friday featuring the standout track “Cocoon.” The song is a thumping pop song with indie elements that kick in after the first chorus. The singer-songwriter sets the scene of trying to make plans after, she sings, “I’m just going through something.”
