Tyler Posey talks Freedom with first full length album “UNRAVEL”
UNRAVEL is Tyler Posey’s first full-length album and composed of sixteen songs; one of which being his previously released single Lemon. Posey recently reprised his role of werewolf Scott McCall for Teen Wolf: The Movie (2023) – now streaming on Paramount+ - where Lemon also made a feature in the ending credits. He recently had taken the step of becoming a solo artist in 2020, and talked about how, “it’s the first song of mine I’ll get to hear on the big screen. How sick is that? I’ve never written a song knowing it was going to be in a film”.
Lemon is one of these sixteen different songs – as Posey himself raves about the freedom of this album and the multitude of genres across each track. He also opened up quite a bit about his experience with the early days of the COVID Pandemic, and the struggles he’s faced with his physical & mental wellbeing. While strict quarantine orders were in place for the city of Los Angeles, Posey became stuck in a cycle of isolation and substance abuse. The courage it took to open up and get help shines through in UNRAVEL and it’s lyricism.
One line that really stands out to me comes from Understand, where “the voice in my head says you won’t ever understand” is a such a common thought for those who struggle with mental health – and it’s always comforting to know other people can feel the same as you do. Posey really invites the listeners in to connect with him and his journey, and every track on the album is truly so easy to identify with.
Tyler Posey also loves the freedom that comes with being an independent artist in the scene and, when mentioning the different genres on this one LP, tells fans to “ Listen to it from start to finish in order, to really experience the ride that is UNRAVEL!” After garnering some well-deserved praise from MTV, J-14, and Entertainment Tonight, you’ll definitely want to experience the freedom Posey sings so passionately about. Even the recently released single Runnin’ shows a sense of freedom, consisting of very relaxed & laid back energy compared to the harder style we’re used to seeing.
UNRAVEL is a phenomenal next step in Posey’s career, and you can also see his personal growth within his music. Right from the two opening tracks Get Out Alive & Attic, we get the strong pop punk influences so commonly seen within his music, topped with his vocal prowess with alternating between smooth screaming & singing softly.
Unravel, the closing track on the LP, was a beautiful way to close the track list. “If I could just unravel my brain and give you a sample” is another relatable way of thinking of your own mental struggles, as it’s so difficult to express how you feel when you don’t have the words. As we are all trying to not completely unravel ourselves and many feel the need to hide their struggles, Tyler Posey stands out with this album completely.
Posey is also playing an album release show on Saturday June 10th at Chain Reaction in Anaheim, CA!
