THE WEEKEND REPLAY
Welcome back to another Weekend Replay here at Doors at Seven. I have a great playlist of tunes ready for your listening enjoyment this week, so get your headphones ready and let’s begin.
Rock music kicks off with “Fearless,” the new single off of New Years Day’s new album Half Black Heart. The track starts out relatively mellow, with the workings of a pop track that unfolds into a heavy rock sound in the choruses. The group’s new album is their fifth full-length effort, with tracks balancing darkness and light throughout. Annie Clark’s St. Vincent made her long-awaited return with her new single “Broken Man.” Entirely produced by Clark herself (as well as her entire upcoming studio album All Born Screaming), the song marks a drastic change from the retro rock grooves she and producer Jack Antonoff created on her last album Daddy’s Home in 2021. “Broken Man” is full of whirring production and gritty electric guitar, making her upcoming release one to keep your eye on.
Faye Webster’s title track off her new record Underdressed at the Symphony leads alternative music. With grand orchestral arrangements amidst Webster’s usual country-esque indie sound, the track is one of the finest on the album, an eclectic mix of auto-tuned indie-pop tunes to low tempo folkier ones. Cigarettes After Sex (finally) announced their new album X’s with the release of a new song “Tejano Blue.” Drawing to the group’s Texan roots, the track is warm and dreamy, released perfectly on time for spring days ahead.
Coming in hot to lead pop music this week is Charli XCX’s comeback single “Von dutch.” The hyper pop queen’s lead single off of her upcoming album Brat (due out this summer) is a fiery return. XCX uses the famed and controversial clothing brand to make a catchy, club-ready bop all about being confident in your life contrary to naysayers. Up-and-coming British pop artist Griff released her new track “Miss Me Too” off of the upcoming second installment of her Vertigo project. The new single solidifies her as one of the best new names in pop. She details the falling out of a relationship over a thumping beat, ready to make it a smash (or at least, in my opinion, should be one).
