THE WEEKEND REPLAY

Welcome back to another edition of The Weekend Replay, here at Doors at Seven! I have another super lineup of tunes for you this week, so get your headphones, smart TV or whatever you use to listen to music ready for some listening.

Kicking off rock music is “End of Scene” from The Sees’ new record Conversations With My Future Self. The Brooklyn-based group’s new track transforms throughout, with the second half sounding completely different from the first. Clocking in at around six and a half minutes long, the guitar parts drive the song forward as they ricochet back and forth between tempos and sounds. There’d be no way to talk about rock music from the past week without Dolly Parton’s new album Rockstar, featuring “What Has Rock And Roll Ever Done For You” alongside Stevie Nicks. Parton’s first venture into rock music has new collaborations with other rock legends like Paul McCartney and Joan Jett, but Nicks and Parton’s chemistry across this song is infectious.

Alternative music is led by alternative group saturdays at your place’s new track “forever.” The track features a thumping drum track and a ricocheting guitar track throughout it. The bridge features a robotic voice effect on the vocals, making for a unique feature in an alternative track that works all too well. Musician André 3000 released his new experimental and solely instrumental-based album on Friday called New Blue Sun. It features the stunningly minimalist piece “Ninety Three ‘Til Infinity and Beyoncé,” which is composed of (mainly) flute and vibrating electronic percussion. Jack Antonoff-led group Bleachers dropped their new single “Alma Mater,” along with the announcement of their upcoming fourth, self-titled album due out March 2024. The track is produced unusually for a Bleachers song, and the unusualness of it makes it stand out in the best way possible. With vocals throughout the track provided by Lana Del Rey, Bartees Strange and Clairo…what could go wrong?

Alt-pop artist Dora Jar released her new track “Puppet.” Jar’s been performing the song live and finally dropped it for all to enjoy. The track swells up and down throughout and her vocals among the gritty production makes for a killer song. Ending off the mix this week is a highlight from Sabrina Carpenter’s stellar new holiday-themed EP fruitcake. The pop star’s new project features the simmering pop track “santa doesn’t know you like i do,” featuring some retro holiday pop production and stunning vocals from Carpenter, who's currently on the road with Taylor Swift.
