Shawshank Redemption Church of Christ - “APOSTATE”

“APOSTATE”, the debut single from Shawshank Redemption Church of Christ, is out now.

Chicago-based artist Samuel Koone has kicked up a new solo project, Shawshank Redemption Church of Christ, and the first taste of the project is an impressive and hopeful look at Koone’s crystal clear vision.

“APOSTATE” was released earlier this month, and the track opens with sparkling guitars joined by a percussive background. The riffs will undoubtedly get stuck in your head and you’ll probably find yourself humming them on repeat if you’re anything like me. It’s an exciting sound that I personally cannot get enough of. For the listeners that passively listen to songs without digesting lyrics, this will probably sound like a happy-ish song (as happy as emo can be, really), but lyrically, themes of religious trauma and burnout feel very poignant and contrast the energy of the instrumentation in a very stunning way.

If you’re a fan of the way bands like The Frights, Meth Wax, or Slaughter Beach, Dog sound, or the themes of music from Ethel Cain or Lincoln, you should check out “APOSTATE” and follow Shawshank Redemption Church of Christ for more (hopefully soon).
