THE WEEKEND REPLAY

Welcome back to another Weekend Replay here at Doors At Seven! I have a great lineup of tunes for you this week. Get your headphones ready and let’s get started.

Taylor Acorn is leading our rock section with her new single “People Watching.” The newest cut off of her upcoming debut album Survival in Motion (out Sept. 13) is an alt-rock banger that starts off tame and simmers into a powerful second chorus. Acorn’s vocals are strong, and shine especially on the bridge and final chorus. “Walking Pipebomb” from Less Than Jake is another rock standout from this past week. Fusing a jazzier sound with punk rock, the group’s new single shines for its back-and-forth in the verses and trumpet parts throughout. It’s a fast-paced cut perfect for summer.

Suki Waterhouse dropped a new single from her upcoming sophomore album. “Blackout Drunk” is an alt-pop upbeat cut with a humorous style of storytelling from Waterhouse. She sings a story of a partner that is not a very good one over a strummed guitar beat and clapping.

Charli xcx enlisted Billie Eilish for a remix of her BRAT cut “Guess.” The clubby track sees the two pop stars going back and forth with each other with tongue-in-cheek lyrics like “Charli likes boys but she knows I’d hit it.” It’s to be trending on social media for the weeks to come, and with good reason. Singer-songwriter Ashe dropped a double single from her upcoming album including the stunning “I hope you die first.” It revolves around a theme of being afraid to make your partner live after your death…geez. She portrays it beautifully and heartbreakingly, with honest songwriting and minimal production.

HONORABLE MENTIONS:

  • I Guess Time Just Makes Fools of Us All” by Father John Misty

  • Screen Cleaner” by George Daniel

  • Joker Lips” by MJ Lenderman

  • Seed of a Seed” by Haley Heynderickx

  • That’s How I’m Feeling” by Jack White

  • Arm’s Length” by Kacey Musgraves

  • HIGHJACK” by A$AP Rocky & Jessica Pratt

That’s all for this week’s new music! Thanks for tuning in, and come back next week for another roundup of the best new tunes.
