THE WEEKEND REPLAY
Welcome back to another Weekend Replay here at Doors At Seven! I have a great set of new tunes for your listening enjoyment this week. Get your headphones ready and let’s get started.
Kicking off rock music section is none other than Cassadee Pope with a track off of the new deluxe version of her album Hereditary. “The Poet” is an angsty pop-rock track where Pope details the romantic experience with a self-proclaimed poet. Her vocals are strong over the strummed-out production, with the guitars turning into flurries of chords and drums. Rock artist Taylor Acorn released her new single “Nervous System.” It comes off of her latest, sophomore record Survival in Motion. With smashing percussion and scathing lyrics, Acorn flawlessly delivers a pop-rock banger.
Electronic artist FKA twigs released her new single “Eusexua.” The track comes from her upcoming third album of the same name. twigs stated in interviews that Prague’s techno scene inspired her new album. The track is a stunner and she manages to make it feel sparse and full at the same time, with parts where it’s her voice and a thumping beat compared to others with yelps and synthy background noises. Suki Waterhouse dropped her sophomore full-length record titled Memoir of a Sparklemuffin (after the titular spider), featuring the new single “Model, Actress, Whatever.” The track touches on moments of darkness and light throughout the artist’s career, and how the public has reacted. Over an atmospheric guitar track, Waterhouse ends in a place where she seems simply over the talk.
Charli xcx carried BRAT into autumn with a new remix of the track “Talk talk” featuring her frequent collaborator and friend Troye Sivan. The song features a spoken intro and outro courtesy of Dua Lipa (random but welcome!) and a reworked production. Sivan provides an entirely new verse, while xcx’s original verse becomes the chorus. The duo’s chemistry is undeniable as always.
