The Weekend Replay

After an incredible Hippie Holy Week from Bicycle Day to 4/20 to Earth Day (and of course, the beginning of Taurus season), welcome back to the Weekend Replay. The good vibes are just getting started though, and there is so much music to share, so let’s jump in.

Jupiter Trolley kicks things off this week with their new LP, A Different Kind of Tonic, a super  groovy, late-60s psychedelic sound that is truly intoxicating. While we’re on the groovy front, Squid had returned with another single, this time, it’s “Undergrowth”, a track that feels very late 90s alternative driven mixed with some really intriguing post-punk elements, and Pearl & The Oysters chime in with Coast 2 Coast

While still keeping things pretty mellow but shifting the vibe a little bit, the indie-er releases this week are for sure new tunes that you won’t want to miss. The Way Back from Me and My Grandma is a light indie sound with inspired guitars that are the star of the show on these three tracks. Then five-piece newcomers The Last Dinner Party have shared their long-awaited debut single “Nothing Matters”. Until this point, this crew has only shared their music in live spaces, but now, the indie pop, track with fun instrumentation, gorgeous vocals, and a gratifying, danceable experience is being shared far and wide. (If you want to keep the dancability up, also check out the new Kim Petras and Nicki Minaj collab that is reinvigorating the spirit of club music with “Alone”, which features a sample from the ‘90s club classic, “Better Off Alone” by Alice Deejay.) But back to indie—“Glue Song” one of beabadoobee’s most well-known songs was re-released with a feature from indie pop royalty, Clairo.

In the dreamy indie acoustic realm, Leith Ross shared “Music Box”, another track that the artist originally shared on their TikTok in 2021 and their following has been patiently waiting for it ever since. Plus, Infinite Spring is the debut album from Superviolet, their single “Locket” was featured on The Weekend Replay last week, so if you enjoyed that, definitely check out the full album, and Moonunitt shared a new track, “Cops!”. It’s not yet available on streaming services like Spotify just yet, but check it out here!

Easing us into a different direction, One Wayne G is Mac DeMarco’s latest release, and, in terms of quantity, it outnumbers every other release this week with 199 tracks or nine and a half hours of previously unheard music from DeMarco. Most of the album is instrumentals, but a handful of tracks are accompanied by striking yet mellow lyricism. And, The Front Bottoms are back back back again! The NJ natives have just released “Outlook”. If you liked their older sound (like, Back on Top era TFB), this song has a very nostalgic feel that definitely connects back to that period of their music.

If you're looking for a heavier beach rock sound, look no further than Localles’ Standing on Thin Air EP. Also, HTML released a little EP called Apple Cider Vinegar. Although it’s just over 13 minutes long, it packs a major punch. Then, French rock crew Cathedrale released their new album, Words / Silence this week and it is packed with some really exciting and experimental sounds that will captivate your attention. The Bluechips’ “Inside Out” is new this week, starting out with a distant rendition of “The Entertainer”, the track goes on to create an entire eerie environment for the duration of the song. Pop punk/emo trio Tarnish shared “Blank Stare”, their latest single, and Militarie Gun just shared an angsty single called “Very High”

It has been yet another week for the books in terms of new music and celebrations. Although there might not be anything on the calendar saying you have reason to celebrate, listening to the Weekend Replay is reason enough to celebrate—so, same time next week?
