The Weekend Replay
Welcome back to another Weekend Replay at Doors At Seven! We have another stellar lineup of music for you this week so buckle in and get your headphones ready.
Leading rock this week is UnityTX, who released “DIAMOND DIEZ,” a dance-infused rock track that shows a new side to the group’s batch of singles they have put out over the past few weeks. While the rest of the singles have been mainly hard rock-based, the beat in this one is one that does not shy away from grunge and dance music. SeeYouSpaceCowboy…’s “Chewing The Scenery” rockets through genres as it goes on. Bouncing between heavy rock and light indie rock, the track is a ride worth taking, with multiple vocal performances varying in intensity. FOXCULT released “GLACIER” is a heavy rock song that goes between indie rock and heavy vocals with ease. Telltale dropped “Help Is On The Way,” a bouncing rock track that drives itself through its vocal performance and production that evolves throughout, as it slows down and picks back up at times. Short Fictions’ “Reno Nevada, January 2020” is a sparkling indie rock song that stands out for its instrumentals that utilize chimes towards the ends of the choruses to make for a perfectly upbeat track. “Italian Smokes” from latewaves is a rock song that shines for its emotional vocals and bridge, where the song hits its peak.
Jive Talk leads indie music this week with “The Gardener.” The imagery scattered across the songwriting in the song connects to the titular theme of gardening in a stunning way. Mitski released a double single from her upcoming album The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We. Both “Heaven” and “Star” are incredible and make the album one to highly anticipate. “Star” is a twinkling song that reflects on love with swelling synths and a light percussion track. “Heaven,” on the other hand, is a country-inspired track that also touches on themes of love and finding the titular heaven in small acts of love.
Leading pop is Selena Gomez’s “Single Soon,” a soaring dance-pop breakup anthem that finds Gomez making music that she absolutely shines in. Also former Disney star Miley Cyrus released “Used To Be Young,” a reflection on the pop star’s past that was heavily monitored and scrutinized by the general public. The song is a soaring ballad that follows her hit 2023 album Endless Summer Vacation. Indie singer-songwriter Soccer Mommy put her spin on Taylor Swift’s 2006 country-pop song “I’m Only Me When I’m With You.” Soccer Mommy does not change too much from the original but adds her own indie pop spin on it. Madds Buckley released her fourth full-length album My Love is Sick on Friday, including the new single “Anything, Anything, Anything,” a very well-written mostly-acoustic ode to a loved one.
Zach Brian released his stunning sophomore, self-titled album on Friday, featuring the highlight “I Remember Everything” featuring country-pop star Kacey Musgraves. Between the duo’s back-and-forth approach with storytelling and the way their voices blend together over a light acoustic production, the song is a must-listen.
That is all for this week’s edition of The Weekend Replay! Come back next week for another roundup of the best new music.
