THE WEEKEND REPLAY

Welcome back to another Weekend Replay here at Doors at Seven! I have another great week of music lined up for you this week, so get your headphones ready.

Kicking off rock music this week is Youth Fountain’s “Clarity,” off of their brand new album Together In Lonesome. Tyler Zanon’s solo punk project’s third studio album is a testament to their development as a band, and “Clarity” is one of the finest tracks on it. Zanon’s vocals are strong and the lyrics are meaningfully on par with the heavy production. UNIVERSITY’s new track “King Size Slim” off of their new EP Title Track is a thumping alt-rock cut that shines for its buzzy guitar riffs towards the latter end of it and the shrieking vocals throughout. “Bleu” from Broadside marks the group’s third new recently-released single. The emo rockers’ new track comes before the release of their fourth album Hotel Bleu, out Nov. 10.

Alternative music is led by MGMT’s “Mother Nature.” The indie duo’s new track expands on their signature synthy sound to a more laid back indie-pop vibe, with piano chords and light drum taps. Gluehead’s “Headlights” is an indie-rock track that stands out for its whirring guitar licks in the post choruses and sharp songwriting. Lindsey Jordan’s Snail Mail dropped their Valentine (Demos) featuring the demo of Valentine highlight “Headlock.” The demo is a more stripped back version of the stunner of a song, with a grainy guitar and Jordan’s raw vocals.

Starting off pop music this week is Olivia Rodrigo’s new single “Can’t Catch Me Now,” from the new installment. of The Hunger Games franchise, “The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.” Rodrigo chooses to keep the song relatively subdued and acoustic until the end where her vocals get louder and the production gradually swells with her. It’s reminiscent of the folkier songs from the first Hunger Games movie like Taylor Swift and The Civil Wars’ “Safe & Sound.” Ending off this edition of The Weekend Replay is (crazy enough) a new single from The Beatles. “Now And Then” was the group’s last song to ever be released, and was worked on by two of the original members, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. The duo used voice recordings of the group from its original recording session with some updated production.
