THE WEEKEND REPLAY
Welcome back to another Weekend Replay here at Doors at 7!
Rock music is led by We The Kings’ new track “Alien.” The alt-rock track opens with a child introducing the song name, then kicks off into a flurry of guitar strums and drums. The chorus uses familiar themes to convey a strong message towards the overall track. “Rose Thorns” from Charmer is a grunge-esque rock song with ricocheting guitar riffs that stuns in the verses where the song breaks down and picks back up just in time for the chorus. The sways in and out of full-throttle production make it stand out. Sir Echo’s “Spider Bites” sees the Hudson Valley-based rock trio use vivid storytelling to perfectly set a scene of chaos. Strong vocals add to the stunner of a track. Erase Theory dropped their new single “The Good Kind.” The song is a more straightforward rock track compared to their more alt-rock-leaning recent singles, and leans into a darker and grungier sound for the group.
Alternative music starts with John-Robert’s “Sweet Child,” a laid-back indie-pop tune with sweet vocals and clean, reverbed guitar licks. The song is one of the finest in indie pop from the past week and shines for its unique production. Alternative duo Flyte released their new self-titled album on Friday, featuring the beautiful “Dont Forget About Us,” featuring indie singer-songwriter Billie Marten. The song features a light acoustic guitar production over the soothing and seamless blend of the two artists’ vocals.
None other than Taylor Swift kicks off pop music this week, with a new batch of killer songs from 1989 (Taylor’s Version), the newly recorded version of her smash hit 2014 album. Taylor’s Version includes five new previously-unreleased tracks, including the amazing “Is It Over Now?” The track continues the lore touched on in her song “Out of the Woods” and features some of Swift’s best lyricism across the record. The production is provided by her longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff, who produced the other four, as well as a handful of the album’s original tracks. “Slut!” is another highlight from the new cuts, and sees Swift lean into a more dreamier form of pop than her usual work. It touches on the artist’s perceived portrayal of herself in the media when she gets scrutinized for her love life and puts a bit of a spin on it. Niall Horan released a new version of his 2023 album cut “You Could Start A Cult” with indie singer-songwriter Lizzy McAlpine. McAlpine brings a new light to the track and adds a new verse and angelic harmonies over the choruses.
