Weekend replay 02.13.2023

To the lovers and to the haters alike, happy Valentine’s Day, and welcome back to the Weekend Replay. Whether or not you have someone to celebrate with, we’ve got new music for your queue.

Squid starts us off this week with “Swing (In A Dream)”, a post-punk jam of a single that can only be followed up by Paramore’s new, highly anticipated album This Is Why—there has been a lot of conversation around what the best song on this album is, but “Crave” felt appropriate as an inclusion for this week’s roundup of new music. Leith Ross has shared “(You) On My Arm”, a danceable new dreamy, indie love song that is timely having been released in the week before Valentine’s Day, and Indigo De Souza released “Younger & Dumber”, equally as time appropriate for those of you searching for a heartbreaking track this week.

Shalom’s “Soccer Mommy”, a single named after the singer, changes the tone slightly with a fun and youthful indie sound (think slightly edgier Lucy Dacus, and that’s the sound Shalom shares on this track). And, of course, Carly Cosgrove is back with more new music. This week they shared “Don’t Lick The Swingset”, an authentic look at the current state of emo, plus Pierce The Veil’s latest album, The Jaws Of Life, is out now. “Sports Day” is the latest from punk noise group Gilla Band, and Godcaster has shared another fantastic new single, “Vivian Heck”. Lovejoy and The Plot In You also just put new singles out into the world, “Call Me What You Like” and “Left Behind” respectively. Moments of Clarity is the newest release from Narrow Head, and The Land, The Water, The Sky is the latest from Black Belt Eagle Scout.

Tennis adds a light indie vibe into the mix with Pollen and tracks like “Let’s Make a Mistake Tonight”, complimented nicely by Harriette’s “Goodbye Texas” which walks the line between indie and country. Rebecca Black has finally shared her debut album Let Her Burn, which has a shocking intensity behind it, and Ashnikko’s “You Make Me Sick!” is another highlight of the week. Also, there’s new music from crushed with their EP extra life and angel jelly and America Loves Me joined forces on “lobster”

Good news for fans of Bakar—the artist has just put out a new single, “Good News”. You Me At Six’s new album Truth Decay is out now, and American Authors have shared their first full-length release since 2019 with their new LP, Best Night of My Life. And Yo La Tengo joins the Weekend Replay once again with their album, This Stupid World.

It’s been another great week for new music across the board. For the forever emo kids to the indie lovers, this week is definitely one for the books. Come back next week for another edition of the Weekend Replay!
