THE WEEKEND REPLAY

Welcome back to another Weekend Replay! August has brought another great week of music- and we have them all for you here.

Rock music this week is led by Broadside’s “Bang,” featuring Joshua Roberts. The alternative rock band’s new track is an emo-inspired rock song. Featuring catchy choruses and glittering production that repeats the chorus’ stunning synth intro, it is a standout from the week. Peter McPoland’s stunning debut full-length record Piggy features the new track “Dog.” The song, solidifying McPoland’s new sound and just how well he pulls it off, only gets better as it goes on, as it breaks loose towards the end into a chill-invoking cascade of distorted vocals and drums/ Arm’s Length’s “Up In Smoke” is one of the week’s finest emo-rock songs, marking the band’s first release since their 2022 debut full-length album. Indie punk band Sundressed released their self-titled record featuring the single “Nothing,” which utilizes a repeated and yearning chorus. Latchkey Kids’ “mo(u)rning anthem” is an indie-rock track that has punk elements and glimmering guitar picking. Twentythreenineteen’s new single “Chessie” is a punk-rock that stands out for its production, with heavily-reverbed and fleeting guitar riffs. “friday, i’m on drugs,” seemingly a spinoff of the famous The Cure track, is a building indie rock song from King of Heck featuring jcrumb. It shines as it grows towards the end, with its final blurt of the title.

Slaughter Beach, Dog released “Summer Windows,” the third single from their upcoming album. It perfectly invokes the feeling that the title suggests and as summer is winding down, perfectly fits the time of year. Yendawg released their debut LP how to pull of an irish exit with the standout “watercolor.” The song is a laid-back simmering indie singer-songwriter one, allowing the group’s songwriting to be perfectly on-par with their instrumentals. Flyte’s “Speech Bubble” off the singer-songwriter duo’s upcoming album is an acoustic song with mesmerizing melodies and vivid storytelling that immerses you within it. Cavetown’s new acoustic version of their song “frog” is a stripped-back track that allows the indie singer-songwriter’s writing capabilities and raw vocals to shine.

This week in pop music is led by Chappell Roan with her new song “HOT TO GO!,” a song inspired by cheerleading, as Roan said about its release. It is an infectious pop song, boasting verses with popping synths and choruses with a chant-ready melody. Olivia Rodrigo released the second single off her highly-anticipated sophomore album GUTS. “bad idea right?” is a mostly-spoken pop track that feels straight out of a 2000s rom-com. Turnstile released a triple single, featuring “Alien Love Call,” a stellar psychedelic pop track featuring Blood Orange. The percussion sections throughout make the track stand out as one of pop’s finest from this year. Alix Page released the acoustic version of the lead single “Automatic” from her Goose EP from earlier this year. It brings a new dimension to the indie-pop track, allowing Page’s stunning lyrics to be fully heard.

That ends this week’s edition of The Weekend Replay! Come back next week in the same spot for another roundup of the best new tracks, all right here for you.
