THROWBACK THURSDAY

Welcome back to Throwback Thursday! This week, I’ve compiled a playlist of ten songs that have come out this week in the past. We covered a wide range of artists and genres this week, from Kate Bush to The Rolling Stones.

Before we dive into our playlist, I thought I’d mention some noteworthy events that happened this week in the past. On November 14 1967, Pink Floyd began their first ever UK tour at the Royal Albert Hall in London. The venue was opened in 1871 by Queen Victoria, and its stage has held some of the world’s most famous performers, including Jimi Hendrix and David Bowie.

On November 15 1956, Elvis Presley had his acting debut, starring in the film “Love Me Tender”, directed by Robert D. Webb. It premiered at the Paramount Theater in New York City, and grossed over $500,000 in its first week.

Finally, on November 16, 2010, Beatles music was available for the first time ever digitally. This was an iconic day for music enthusiasts everywhere, a total of 16 Beatles albums were uploaded to the iTunes store.

Now, onto our list of songs for the week!

  1. “Full House” by Kate Bush, 1978

  2. “Shine A Light” (Live) by The Rolling Stones, 1995

  3. “An Old Fashioned Love Song” by Three Dog Night, 1971

  4. “Go Back Home” by Stephen Stills, 1970

  6. “Beautiful Boy” by John Lennon, 1980

  7. “Watching the River Flow” by Bob Dylan, 1971

  9. “Low Man’s Lyric” by Metallica, 1997

  10. “Until The End Of The World” by U2, 1991

I’ve opened up this week’s playlist with none other than Kate Bush. “Full House” starts off with a softer piano melody, and builds beautifully.

Three Dog Night’s “An Old Fashioned Love Song” is another gem. It is a 70’s song through and through, with Chuck Negron on lead vocals. This song was the band’s seventh Billboard top-ten hit, peaking at number four.

Slowing it down toward the center of the playlist, we have John Lennon’s “Beautiful Boy.” Featured on Double Fantasy, which would be Lennon’s final album, the song is one of his biggest hits. He wrote the song about his son Sean, who was born in October 1975.

The closing track for this week, “Until The End Of The World”, by U2, is one of my favorites. Released on the band’s 1991 album Achtung Baby, and was formed from a guitar riff that was composed by lead vocalist Bono.

Join us next week for a brand new playlist with blasts from the past from your favorite artists and bands!
