THROWBACK THURSDAY
Welcome back to Throwback Thursday! This week, we have a wonderful playlist curated of songs that have come out this week in the past. We have somewhat of a rock theme going on this week, with songs from Pink Floyd and Deep Purple, but a few softer tracks as well, including one from John Lennon.
It was a big week for the music industry in the past, and we have some noteworthy events that were worth sharing. In 1991, Metallica embarked on their iconic Wherever We May Roam tour, in Illinois. The tour would span three years, and supported their self-titled album, which is the band’s most successful to date.
Additionally, in 1983 Pink Floyd’s album, Dark Side Of The Moon broke the record for most weeks on the Billboard album chart, where it remained until 1988. In other rock-world news, Black Sabbath reunited in 1998 for a performance on the Late Show With David Letterman.
Now that it’s officially Christmas season, it couldn’t go without mentioning that Mariah Carrey’s iconic Merry Christmas album was released this week in 1994!
Moving on to our playlist, we’re starting out with Deep Purple this week. Perfect Strangers is a great rock album, with a heavier classic rock feel. From there, we dive into some John Lennon, where he taps into that as well, on his album Mind Games.
Further down, we have a few tracks off Lenny Kravitz’ Lenny, keeping the theme going. “Battlefield Of Love” and “Stillness Of Heart” are two solid songs that are infused with that rock’n’roll feel.
In the last third of our weekly playlist, we’re mellowing it down a bit with some songs from Pink Floyd and Lifehouse. I chose to end on this note following the heavier rock moment from the top half, and leave off with “Somebody Else’s Song” which encompasses the playlist as a whole this week.
Join us next week for a brand new playlist with blasts from the past from your favorite artists and bands!
