THE WEEKEND REPLAY

Welcome back to another Weekend Replay here at Doors at Seven! I have another stacked week of music on deck for you, so get your headphones ready and let’s begin.

Alternative music kicks off with Gustaf’s new single “Starting and Staring.” The Brooklyn band’s first new release in three years sees them continue the hot art punk streak that they started. The single has a groovy guitar track that drives the whole song, alongside a simple yet just as catchy drum hits. Another highlight from another Brooklyn-based group is Hipsy Gap’s new track “Fantasize.” The indie-pop/rock single sees some dream-pop influence in the vocal delivery and production of the verses, compared to the harder rock of the choruses- especially towards the end. Indie-folk artist Waxahatchee dropped her new song “Right Back to It,” featuring MJ Lenderman. The single leads her upcoming record titled Tigers Blood, due out March 22. The sweetly-strummed country-esque track is one of the finest indie tracks in recent memory, with the two artists vocals blending together flawlessly.

Pop music is led by Suki Waterhouse’s new single “OMG.” The whirring alt-pop track is Waterhouse’s first new release since last summer. It sees her return to a poppier sound that she touched on with her early music in songs like “Johanna.” “OMG” is one of her most catchy melodies, and has some of her strongest vocals and lyrics of her career. Faye Webster dropped the third single off her newly-announced album Underdressed at the Symphony. “Lego Ring” sees Webster at her most experimental, with tempo changes throughout, and distorted, warbling background vocals and solo outro from Lil Yachty. Ariana Grande made her return with her first solo single in 4 years titled “yes, and?” Touching on the vastly-reported rumors about the pop star, she brushes them off over a poppy house beat.
