The WEEKEND REPLAY
Welcome back to The Weekend Replay here at Doors at Seven! I have another great week of music lined up for your listening enjoyment, so get your headphones ready, and let’s begin.
Alternative-rock group Have Mercy released their first full-length album since 2019 called NUMB on Friday, featuring the standout title track. With an early 2000s-esque guitar track for the first half, it sees the group at its best. The track has vivid lyricism about relationships and sobriety, adding a personal element that is even more enhanced with the building production, as the drums and guitar amp up throughout the song's second half. The Killers dropped a new song from their newly-released career-spanning highlights album called Rebel Diamonds. Their new song “Spirit” is reminiscent of their old hits, while staying original in itself with thumping drums and cascading synths in the background.
Alternative music is led by John-Robert’s new track “Road Trip,” off of the indie-folk artist’s new EP Garden Snake. Robert details a cross-country trip with his brother Chase throughout the song but realizes that nothing about his life changed even if the place did. The groovy indie-pop song shines for its very detailed songwriting, and (seemingly) jazz-inspired multi-instrumental production. Adrianne Lenker released her first solo single since her highly-acclaimed 2020 album songs, featuring the very popular and very stunning song “anything.” Her new track “Ruined” is a rare piano-based confessional from Lenker, whose work is often based around an acoustic guitar. Her songwriting is exquisite as always, and the melody is one of her more mainstream-sounding ones in its ballad-type form. It leads her album that she announced will be out sometime next year.
Pop music is kicked off by Tate McRae this week, with the release of her sophomore record THINK LATER. The new single off of it “run for the hills” follows the massive success of previous singles “greedy” and “exes,” with the same potential to be a smash. With sleek production from massive pop songwriter and producer Ryan Tedder, it further develops the up-and-coming artist’s sound, thanks to clever lyrics and hit-ready pop production. Indie-pop singer-songwriter Keni Titus dropped her new track “Kid,” a breezy pop tune with themes of nostalgia set in front of lightly-strummed acoustic guitar and smooth vocals from Titus. There is a bit of twang to the sound, too, adding to the hometown feel of the song.
