THE WEEKEND REPLAY

Welcome back to another Weekend Replay here at Doors at 7! I have another great batch of music for you this week so get your headphones ready.

Rock music is headed by Citizen’s new track “Headtrip” off of their new album Calling the Dogs that came out this past Friday. The track is a thumping alt-rock song with a catchy pop melody set over a guitar track and drum beat. Ben Quad’s “Holding Patterns” is one of rock’s finest releases from the past week. With bouncing percussion production and light guitar finger picking, the song shines in both its quieter and louder moments. Rock group instant crush dropped “REDEMPTION ARC.” The new single features pulsing guitar riffs and songwriting that finds the band not looking to give out any forgiveness to an unworthy ex-love.

Singer-songwriter Sufjan Stevens starts off alternative music this week with his first solo album in three years. The album, titled Javelin, features his latest single “A Running Start” that highlights the artist’s stunning ability to conjure up some of the most unique sonical landscapes in alternative music. Mac DeMarco and Ryan Paris team up for the laid back “Simply Paradise,” a summery guitar-based track that dreams about a love that is, like the title suggests, paradise. Alternative-folk star Noah Kahan continues his collaboration streak with Kacey Musgraves who appears on Kahan’s track “She Calls Me Back.” Musgraves provides a verse and a duet on the ending choruses adding a new dimension to the already-stunning track off of the deluxe edition of Kahan’s smash record Stick Season.

Holly Humberstone’s “Kissing In Swimming Pools” leads pop music this week. The British alternative-pop star released the track as the fifth single from her debut album Paint My Bedroom Black due out next Friday. With a country twang and laid back production to it, Humberstone paints the scene of the song so vividly you get lost in it. Electronic synth-pop duo telly’s new track “Broken Heart Baby” is a pop cut with twinkling synths and angelic backing vocals. The duo have been releasing a handful of singles over 2023 that infuse different genres like shoegaze and pop into a sound that is uniquely theirs. Paramore released a new version of this year’s album This Is Why with each song reimagined or remixed by different artists like Julien Baker or Claud. The last song is “Sanity (demo),” a solo Paramore demo track that marks the only new material from the group since This Is Why was released. The song is an infectious indie-pop cut reminiscent of their 2017 record After Laughter.
