THE WEEKEND REPLAY
Welcome back to this week’s edition of The Weekend Replay! I have another stellar batch of songs for your listening enjoyment this week. Get your headphones, speaker or whatever you use to consume your music, and let’s begin.
Starting rock music off strong this week is Suntitle’s new track “At Your Feet.” The single comes off of a new joint EP from Suntitle and House & Home, where both groups contributed two songs each. The whole release is very much worthy of a listen, but “At Your Feet” is a highlight. The South Jersey group’s new song is a whirlwind of fuzzy electric guitar and drum hits, all tied together with a bridge where the production cuts out at times to near-screaming vocals. The track cements the group as one of the most exciting upcoming acts in alternative rock music. Bayside’s new song “Castaway” is a punk-rock track driven by buzzy guitar licks and an explosive drum track. The track comes with the group’s announcement of their spring headline tour, “The Worse Things Than Being Alive Tour,” which kicks off this April.
Alternative music is led by indie singer-songwriter Briston Maroney’s new song “I Told You So.” The guitar-and-piano-based track showcases Maroney’s vivid songwriting, focusing on a tale of sweet love. The production fits the song perfectly, and changes throughout to pick up the pace and slow it back down for a full instrumental breakdown towards the end of it. The release comes as Maroney starts his tour for the recently-released Ultrapure album. Goth Babe’s “Sadie” is an alternative-pop song that is perfect for dark winter days, with its glistening production that makes you dream of summer. The track leads the artist’s new album Lola, named after the sailboat that he lives on and writes music from.
Kicking off pop music is FLETCHER’s new cut from her newly-announced album In Search Of The Antidote. “Lead Me On” is a thumping pop track with stellar vocals from the singer-songwriter. The lyrics detail a struggle with wanting attention from someone, and settling with being led on because, as she sings, “Something is better than nothing at all.” Parisian dance duo Justice dropped a new track featuring Tame Impala called “One Night/All Night.” It leads Justice’s upcoming record Hyperdrama, due out April 26. The dance-pop song features vocals from Kevin Parker himself, spread out across hazy synths and drum clicks.
