THE WEEKEND REPLAY
Welcome back to The Weekend Replay! I have the perfect lineup of new music to cure your Monday blues. Get your headphones, speaker or anything you listen to music with and let’s begin.
Leading rock music is “Love Sick” from Jigsaw Youth. The Staten Island-originated punk group’s new track is a hard punk-rock cut with menacing vocals and heavy electric guitar chords. The intensity of the drums keeps the uptempo track as sharp as it can be, especially during the near-spoken bridge. The Dutch Kills dropped their new single “Counter.” The thumping indie-rock tune shines for its catchy melody in the choruses and the stellar production to accompany, with fleeting guitar strums and drum beats. “Drinking and Driving” leads Liquid Mike’s new album “Paul Bunyan’s Slingshot.” The rock group new single is one of the finest in rock from the past weeks, with clean alternative vocals over a classic-sounding rock production.
Kicking off alternative music is up-and-coming group The Last Dinner Party, who released their debut record Prelude to Ecstasy on Friday, featuring the new single “The Feminine Urge.” With heavenly vocals (backing ones included), the song continues a streak of stellar songs that solidify the group’s unique sound. Combining a mix of indie-rock production, a poppy melody and deep-cutting lyrics, the track is a must-listen. A24 Music announced their upcoming Talking Heads tribute album coming soon, with artists like Lorde (everybody cheered) and Miley Cyrus lined up to release covers of songs on the iconic alternative group’s 1984 live album. Paramore is leading the album, with their new cover of “Burning Down the House.” The group’s take is a stunner, with Hayley Williams’s gritty, and insanely strong vocals carrying the cover to new heights.
Pop music is led by pop singer-songwriter EMMY, with her new single “The Saddest Part.” The track comes off of her debut EP Mouthful. The bouncy synth-pop song tackles the aftermath of a relationship over one of the catchiest pop melodies in recent memory. She confesses that the titular saddest part is that “I’d always let you break my heart.” Ouch. Indie-pop artist Phoebe Go dropped her new track “7 Up.” In the midst of being a supporting act for Briston Maroney on his current tour, Go released the laidback tune chock full of mournful lyrics. Her vocals are impressively smooth and add to the gritty electric guitar backtrack. “loner” from London pop group Night Tapes is the dreamiest track of the week. The vocals are heavenly, all while they skate across popping synth tracks and a drum beat perfect for cold winter dreaming of hot summer nights.
HONORABLE MENTIONS:
“Swallow” by Kevin Atwater
“White Cliffs Of Dover” by Florence + The Machine
“Forever” by Hovvdy
“Pulverizer” by Gamblers
