Jersey Rockers LATEWAVES Share New Jamworthy LP
LATEWAVES, the punk rock trio from Asbury Park, New Jersey, has been diligently working on their self-titled album. The band signed with indie label Open Your Ears Records in August for the release of their LP. This album is a collection of songs that explores themes of self-growth, vulnerability, and healing from the past. People who resonate with those ideas are sure to love LATEWAVES.
The record stays true to the trio’s signature sound and style but is by no means a carbon copy of LATEWAVES’ previous releases. The punk rock influences in their music are evident in songs such as “Night Terrors” and “I Don’t Wanna Be Alone Anymore”. However, you can also hear more relaxed sounds in songs like “Pink Cloud” and “Italian Smokes”. No one song sounds the same making the entire album fun for a wide range of listeners. The lyrics throughout the album are also incredibly catchy and relatable making audiences everywhere want to sing or scream along.
Some of my standouts, in no particular order, are “I Don’t Wanna Be Alone Anymore”, “I Only Dance At Weddings”, “Pink Cloud”, and “Night Terrors”. I loved the more edgy sounds in “I Don’t Wanna Be Alone Anymore” and “Night Terrors” with heavier vocals and impressive guitar licks. Contrastingly, I also really appreciated the calm of “Pink Cloud” and the inclusion of brass elements and acoustic guitar. The vocals throughout the record were very clear making it easy and fun to sing along to which I also really value. This is one of the reasons I liked “I Only Dance At Weddings”, it's just a fun song to jam out in the car too.
LATEWAVES truly has something for everyone within its 11 tracks whether you can find the lyrics relatable or maybe you just enjoy the melodies and sound. The trio’s self-titled album showed off their wide-ranged skill set and love for the music they are making. The passion that LATEWAVES carries for their music will only continue to grow as they advance their careers. Missing out on their future progress simply isn’t an option.
