New York’s hottest club is the Weekend Replay. This place has everything: French indie pop, deluxe editions, The National. Join along on this cacophonous adventure of new tunes.
Charmer kicks off this week’s releases with their EP, Seney Stretch, which was released right after the band announced signing to Counter Intuitive Records. Also on the EP end of things, Miracle was shared by Equipment this week and is packed with spunky drums, sleek guitars, and unforgettable lyrics that go to show what a household name the band is destined to become. New Vision continues to impress with the release of their latest single, “Loss Of Soul”. CPS’s debut 1087 is energetic and shares a really fun sound. Plus, the five-piece Quaker Gun Club of Buffalo, New York has shared their stunning album, Vanity Project which highlights rich vocals, quirky lyricism, and unique instrumentation.
Kara Jackson’s “pawnshop” is an elegant folk track that’s new this week. Guy Blue comes in with a nostalgic, dreamy, and anomalous single “No Other Life (Without You)”, and shame shares Food for Worms. snow ellet joins the bluster of new releases with “Whiskey and Soda Pop”, which takes the sound from the artist and makes it a little more sophisticated and developed than what you might be familiar with. Then, at the center of the pop-punk/emo Venn diagram is Ohio trio Scarlet Street, who have just shared their stunning ten-track self-titled album.
Montreal-based Robert Robert shared “Alex” this week as the first French indie pop single following the release of his LP Silicone Vi2eray last year. Real Cultural Shit is the newest from Channel Tres as a dancey, indie, mellow house EP. Also, Hodera (who was featured last week with the single “Trying”) has released Dear Friend, ten songs that each play a part in Hodera’s first album in over five years.
Sir Chloe shakes things up a little bit with an angsty, electrified single, “Hooves”. I Play My Bass Loud is the newest from Gina Birch—this release from Third Man Records keeps things incredibly fresh, dynamic, and lively. U.S. Girls shares more genre-bending and blending sounds with the release of Bless This Mess, and God, I Hate This Place from Annie DiRusso exhibits the indie rocker’s versatility and growth. quinnie (who I said had one of the best songs of 2022 with her single “man”), has shared an expressive and relevant debut album, flounder. And, Allison Ponthier’s “Character Development” shares a look at deeply raw emotions that have been polished and pop-ified.
The second single off of the ninth studio album from The National, “New Order T-Shirt” is here, and it is beautiful. The National’s Aaron Dessner also co-produced “Crybaby”, a new single by Nanna, the vocalist of Of Monsters And Men, an airy and deep track that rounds out new releases for the week.
Yes yes yes yes yes, if you liked all of this new music, be sure to come back next week. Plus, follow the Weekend Replay playlist on Spotify for weekly updates for fresh finds.
