THE WEEKEND REPLAY

Welcome back to another Weekend Replay here at Doors at Seven. I have another stellar week's worth of tunes lined up for you this fine Monday, so get your headphones ready, and let’s begin.

Vampire Weekend is starting rock music strong with their new single “Classical.” The indie-rock band is gearing up for the release of their newest album Only God Was Above Us, and their new single continues a stellar streak of songs so far from it. With a gritty guitar track and catchy melody, there’s something for a music lover of any genre to enjoy. Alternative rock group The Early November dropped a new song from their upcoming self-titled album out June 14. “What We Earn” touches on moments of doubting your life choices, over a beat that amps up throughout the choruses and swells down for the verses.

Kicking off alternative music is Kacey Musgraves with a cut from her stunning new country-folk album Deeper Well. “The Architect” is a highlight, with Musgraves questioning the building blocks of her life and where she’ll end up one day, wanting to speak to the titular “architect.” It’s a guitar-focused track like most of Deeper Well, with a beautiful melody and soft-spoken vocals. Lizzy McAlpine released the second single “I Guess” off of her upcoming album Older. The song continues a sonic shift for McAlpine, leaning towards a folkier, more alternative sound compared to her previous singer-songwriter style. It ends in a flurry of vocals, with lush instrumentation throughout.

Singer-songwriter Kristiane leads pop music with “Almost Believed You.” Off of her new EP Stray Dog, the track is a moody indie-pop cut with production that cuts deeper as it goes on. It starts solely with acoustic guitar strums and Kristiane’s melancholy vocals and builds up after the chorus with a heavy, reverbed guitar track. Her lyricism is vivid, precisely detailing the conversations and memories of a relationship. Holly Humberstone released a new EP titled work in progress, featuring four previously unreleased tracks. A highlight is the title track, which Humberstone worked on alongside indie group Flyte. The song is mainly acoustic apart from the end’s heavenly harmonies, leaving room for her vocals and songwriting to shine.
