Genre-Blending Boston Flowers Share “Mondegreen” LP

Boston Flowers, the indie rock group from Brooklyn, NY, celebrates the release of their debut LP Mondegreen at Arlene’s Grocery on September 13th. This album has been in the works for over a year with the group posting teasers on social media since March of 2022. Needless to say, this highly anticipated record is just as satisfactory, if not more, than what fans were hoping for.

The group gathers inspiration from many different genres such as indie, alternative, and pop rock which combine to give them a unique and exciting sound. The name Boston Flowers was inspired by Austin Powers, an iconic movie character known for his groovy style. You can see this inspiration in not only the group's name but also in the artist’s style and the music video's cinematography for their debut single “Man On Mars”

This album is a mix of multiple different sounds with energetic tracks like “Man On Mars”, softer sounds like “Moody”, and beautiful interludes like “Two Worlds” and “A Bridge”. I personally thoroughly enjoyed the two interludes as I feel they added a valuable transition between tracks. The instrumentals throughout Mondegreen really stood out to me as well. You can tell that Brad Flowers and CJ Kostaras are both talented musicians and their sound is very clear and concise.

Some of my standouts, in no particular order, were “Man On Mars”, “Closed Eyes”, and “More Time”. I loved the energetic, feel-good spirit that each one encapsulated through the upbeat tones and catchy vocals. However, this isn't to belittle any of the other tracks on the record. Mondegreen is truly a no-skip album with songs for every listener.

This is only the beginning of Boston Flowers’ journey. Through Mondegreen, they are making a name for themselves as one of Brooklyn’s most exciting up-and-coming artists and it's easy to see why.
