Ben QUAD RELEASES “JOAN OF HILL”

WORDS BY Ash Hausrath

Although just one song, the four minutes and eleven seconds of Ben Quad’s new single “Joan of Hill” feel like a seamlessly blended variety of tracks. The band leads the audience on a vibrant journey through one incredibly energetic song.

“Joan of Hill” welcomes the listener with a soft, yet upbeat guitar rhythm that carries the audience through the song and becomes familiar as it is repeated in the song's first half. This is followed by layered vocals that don’t get lost or buried by the impressively strong rhythm section, especially the drums. The entire song has a very emo feel that is a much more modern feeling and makes Ben Quad’s unique sound stand out from much of the rest of the scene. The track’s sound is very dynamic, and the lyrics are raw and authentic with relatable emotional qualities that are poetic while still being very catchy and fun. The middle to end of “Joan of Hill” breaks down and introduces a new guitar line that is repeated, along with the lyrics “I’m scared that’s all there is”, which happens to be the title of their upcoming album that is available on June 29.

Fans of the newer emo sound like American Football and Carly Cosgrove should definitely check out this single and what’s next to come from Ben Quad.
