Afloat releases single of the summer “Mouth Shut”

The band Afloat authentically captures the pent-up frustrations of pretending and leaving things unsaid in their newest single, “Mouth Shut”

As an introvert and a recovering people pleaser, there’s nothing worse than agreeing to go out with friends when you truly didn’t want to in the first place. The unspoken tension between wanting to be the outgoing type for others, and just wanting to stay inside... if no one else, I know that feeling all too well.

In Afloat’s newly released single, titled “Mouth Shut”, they give voice to this often silenced feeling with a fierce attitude. Afloat is an alt-rock/emo band based in Cherry Hill, NJ. Consisting of a group of skillful musicians/producers Gabby Relos, and Josh Rubeo, Afloat has been reigniting the Jersey and Philadelphia music scene with their fresh sound for years.

Backed with punchy drums, catchy guitar riffs, and a nostalgic wave of sound, “Mouth Shut” perfectly captures the pent-up frustrations of pretending and leaving things unsaid. “Trying hard to force a smile/I can’t fake it anymore”, Gabby sings over the instrumentals. “All dressed up to go out somewhere/But I should’ve stayed at home”, they admit early on in the track.

The instrumentals and lyrics build up this inevitable tension that breaks out into the chorus, where everyone sings “I don’t wanna be here as much as you do!” It is cathartic and freeing all at once, and you can’t help but take part in the feeling yourself and sing along with them.
