Omo Cloud releases Two new singles “memorial” and “Pick me”
Omo Cloud released two new singles- “Memorial” and “Pick Me-” on June 2. The San Diego-based band’s release follows their first two singles being dropped in 2022.
Starting with “Memorial,” the track is an upbeat indie-pop tune released just in time for the summer. Lead singer and songwriter Cole De La Isla leads the track with a strong vocal performance and songwriting that is just as strong. Starting off strong with a verse including lyrics like “I don’t know where you went when the light shined into your eyes,” the song pans out to be portraying a tale reflecting on a hardship in love. The chorus continues this theme, as De La Isla sings, “I’m so tired of being tender / With this much blood behind my lips.” The song includes a stellar guitar solo after the second chorus, where the vocals are stripped back and it is only the drum beat backing the electric guitar. A highlight of the track is the end, where De La Isla sings the chorus an octave higher and soars above the backing production, a mix of drums, electric guitar and bouncing percussion sound effects. The song ends in a swell of pulsing sounds supported by what sounds like a tambourine. Its songwriting is refined and sleek in its sadness. Something that makes the track stand out so much is the vocal performance that wavers towards the end, seemingly displaying the anxieties mentioned regarding the struggles throughout.
Moving on to “Pick Me,” the song opens with sparse strums of guitar chords and scraping sounds that turned into a drum backing track. The first verse describes a loss of one’s own thinking in the presence of others who they value very much. “I’m alright with anything / If I gave you an opinion, it wasn’t me,” De La Isla coos. The chorus ties the themes of the verses together to create one of wanting so desperately to be loved by someone that you are infatuated with. With lyrics like, “What you want is what I’ll be / Pick me,” Omo Cloud pulls it off very well. It is a very nice companion to “Memorial” in the way that it is much more laid back than the former but still ends on a scathing note. In the bridge, De La Isla pleads, “Pick every scab / Pick every habit / I will be willing if you let me grab it / Oo, let me have it.” The vocal delivery throughout the song is shaky but not in a messy way. It is more in the way of showing yearning in one’s voice and Omo Cloud manages to do this perfectly, especially on “Pick Me.”
The two singles reflect a group that is just getting started but still racking up great singles to start their discography with.
Omo Cloud is prepping their debut EP which will be released soon. In the meantime, check out their four singles available and streaming on every platform.
