The Weekend Replay
Daylight Savings Time has ended and the Weekend Replay is back—what more could you ask for?
This week, there have been some true standouts of new music, starting with Shawshank Redemption Church of Christ’s debut single, “APOSTATE”. The Mile Run and NOCT join forces on the stunning single “Canary” with enticing guitars, compelling vocals, and impressive production. “Shhhh! Golf is On” is the latest single from Hot Mulligan, the self-proclaimed inventors of Post-Emo (which is honestly a very fair classification of their sound). CONSTANT SPRINGTIME from Magazine Beach comes out next month, and for now, the band has given the world the light and catchy “Sunflower Seed” to hold us over until their first full-length album drops.
Three tracks from Waste Man have been released on a self-titled mini-EP, and MSPAINT’s eclectic sound has been documented on their new album, Post-American. The XCERTS and Sam Carter’s collaboration on “Ache” is a really illustrative single that you can read more about here. Meet Me @ The Altar (who have been around since 2018), have finally shared their first LP, Past // Present // Future. Plus, “Makeup Stain” is the latest from Charm and it’s a super mature and refined single.
There are a whole lot of debuts happening this week—Shalom’s debut album, Sublimation, is here and packed with a cohesive indie rock vision. But plenty of familiar faces have also returned, like The Menzingers with “Bad Actors”. Moxie keeps their sound going strong with the release of “VT-9”, likewise with Frankie Rose’s Love As Projection. Indigo De Souza’s sound is constantly evolving and getting more diverse while remaining very true to the artist’s unique sonic identity which is highlighted in “Smog”. Speaking of artists whose sound remains evolving, Miley Cyrus has shown time and time again that she cannot be contained to one genre, and Endless Summer Vacation just keeps that theme going strong. Echosmith’s latest single “Hindsight” is also out now as a light indie pop track.
For a darker sound, check out the newest from Fever Ray, Radical Romantics, but the levity is returned on Panchiko’s “Failed at Math(s)”. Fazerdaze’s “Flood Into” is also a really light sound complimented by dreamy vocals and danceable guitars, and the same can be said about “Don’t Fade Away”, the latest from Beach Fossils. Infinity Crush and Angel Olsen round out the week of new releases with sestinas and “Nothing’s Free” respectively, both projects full of unparalleled depth and stunning sonic qualities.
This week, spend your newfound extra hour of sunlight basking to the new tunes all of these artists have gifted us with, and come back next week for all new music on the Weekend Replay.
