The Weekend Replay
It’s March, and here at Doors At Seven, we’re celebrating Women’s History Month! To celebrate women in music, join along for a very special edition of the Weekend Replay. Here is the newest music from this past week from women and nonbinary artists and fronted bands.
Carlin’s debut single “Still Their Kid” opens this week’s mix and sets the tone beautifully. With relatable and poignant lyrics, Carlin gives us all a lot to look forward to with more new music hopefully on the horizon. When it comes to debuts, Hello Mary chimes in with their debut full-length album, Hello Mary. This album is packed with a dreamy and borderline psychedelic tonality that is masterfully crafted and certainly worth a listen-through. The Cavves also just put out a new tune and are here to make their presence known with the unbelievably catchy and exciting “Hollywood” that I’ll undoubtedly have on repeat indefinitely. Likewise, Slow Pulp’s latest single, “Cramps” contributes a super danceable, upbeat track that will certainly elicit an empathetic response.
Lucy Dacus, Julien Baker, and Phoebe Bridgers once again put the genius in boygenius with their newest single “Not Strong Enough”. The emotional and vulnerable track was released last week to hold audiences over until their new album the record comes out later this year. Triple threat Suki Waterhouse (model, actor, and, of course, musician) dropped “To Love” as another magical track in her discography, her first single following her EP Milk Teeth which came out last November. Laufey, whose album Everything I Love was released in August of 2022, just shared with A Night At The Symphony, a stunning live album of Laufey singing her own songs alongside the Iceland Symphony Orchestra. For a slight shift into a new direction, Birdy’s latest single “Raincatchers” is here.
For a total shift into a new direction, VIAL is here. “Territorial Pissings” is easily one of the most exciting new tracks this week. You might think you know what you’re going to get with this Nirvana cover based on the name alone, but I promise, it’s so much better than anything you could expect. Things are taken back down a bit with Taylor Janzen’s new release and debut full-length album, I Live In Patterns. Beautiful vocals are accompanied by raw lyricism and generally pretty soft but present background instrumentation. “The Dream” is next on the mix from the incomparable Jana Horn. This is a truly impressive track that walks the line between retro and contemporary in a very unique fashion.
Daughter keeps things fresh and fun with the release of their newest single, “Swim Back”, and Cafuné coats the blend this week with a light indie sound. Genevieve Stokes just shared a new single “You & Me”—a song with a very rich and dark sound that is beyond remarkable. Plus, Momma chimes into the chorus of releases this week with their latest single, “Bang Bang”.
The latest from girlhouse shows a unique glimpse at the artist’s portfolio. This track highlights the singer’s emotional vocal range and their voice is backed by a heartbeat of drums and guitars. Ella Vos maintains the theme of light and elegant vocals this week on their latest album SUPERGLUE, and Carlie Hanson follows suit on their newest single “LSE to LAX” ahead of her album Wisconsin which comes out later this week. PACKS closes things out for us this week with a really exciting track “Brown Eyes” that gives us a lot to look forward to for their upcoming album CRISPY CRUNCHY NOTHING which comes out at the end of March.
And that’s it for the Weekend Replay this week! Thank you to all of these artists for sharing their stunning artistry as we celebrate women and people across the gender binary during Women’s History Month. If you enjoyed all of these tracks, be sure to follow along on our Spotify for weekly updates, and come back right here next week as we keep on sharing the newest music you need to be listening to.
